Thank You, Raphael Mechoulam— The Father of Cannabis Research Passes Away

👍 Share:

We are saddened by the passing of Raphael Mechoulam earlier this month, March 2023. His groundbreaking research on cannabis and cannabinoids has inspired all of us at Neurogan and many others to explore the therapeutic benefits of this plant.

We would like to pay our deepest respect to his work, which has helped pave the way for the safe and effective use of cannabinoids for medicinal purposes. His legacy will continue to influence the exploration of natural remedies for the benefit of humanity for years to come.

Research That Changed the World

Raphael Mechoulam was a cannabis research trailblazer who fearlessly explored the therapeutic properties of the plant. He isolated and discovered the first cannabinoid, the THC compound, in 1964, despite the potential negative social and professional consequences of working with cannabis during that time. His work on THC and other cannabinoids paved the way for the medical use of cannabinoids by showing that they have a range of therapeutic benefits.

Mechoulam's discoveries have had a profound impact on medicinal chemistry, opening new avenues for research and discovery. His work on full spectrum hemp led to the discovery of the endocannabinoid system and has helped to legalize medical marijuana in many countries around the world. As an accomplished organic chemist, Mechoulam’s work on cannabinoids, terpenes, and alkaloids advanced our understanding of plant chemical compositions and their value for medical uses.

Mechoulam's research has provided a basis for developing new therapies that revolutionize healthcare and provide nature-based relief for people suffering from conditions such as chronic pain, anxiety, sleep disorders, and epilepsy. Despite numerous awards, including the prestigious Rothschild Prize in Chemical Sciences in 2012, Mechoulam remained humble and committed to his work until his passing earlier this month.

A Legacy

Neurogan owes much to Raphael Mechoulam's groundbreaking research on cannabinoids, which has validated our belief in hemp's therapeutic potential. We strive to offer high-potency cannabinoids extracted by the hemp plant for safe and effective treatment of various conditions, inspired by Mechoulam's work. His research laid a foundation for natural sources, like cannabis, to be respected in science, medicine, and wellness— which has led to the improved health of millions of individuals with the use of plant medicine. We are committed to continuing this important work.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Raphael Mechoulam!
