Insider Scoop: Do You Actually Support Local?

👍 Share:

Hey Health-Seekers

During the COVID-19 crisis, it's been thrilling to see communities come together to support local businesses.

However, the phrase "support local" has become such a commonly used phrase that sometimes we think people might not understand the gravity of actually supporting local.

Today we'll be revisiting one of our favorite Insider Scoop topics, Amazon, through the lens of supporting local and give you some reasons on why it's important to spend your dollar in your very own neighborhood.

Closed sign on the door

Amazon's "Small Businesses"

If you've been along with us for the ride, you know we've taken it upon ourselves to debunk Amazon's CBD oil products as well as Amazon-bought spirulina while taking a closer look at the structure of Amazon itself.

But there is one stone we've left unturned in this saga... the fact that Amazon now has had the gall to launch their own small businesses.

You might be thinking, "How could a mega-corporation launch a small business?" The answer is, they can't.So why does it feel like Amazon is trying to pull the wool over our eyes?

The truth is, Amazon has launched over 23,000 products under over 400 brand names. These brands make it look to the average consumer as they might be diversifying their dollar, but it's really all just going into Amazon's pocket.

As discussed in previous Insider Scoops, Amazon collects the data for these brands and products, from you guessed it, actual small businesses on the platform. They then snuff out the competition by predatory pricing, with nearly 50% of their top-generating "small business" products priced at under $20 - unachievable margins for actual small businesses.

Amazon's reasoning behind switching up their identity within these brands is transparent, by operating this way, they don't appear to the naked eye as the plain and simple monopoly that they truly are.

Adding insult to injury, check-out this totally cringe-worthy list of Amazon's totally creative small business branding.

3 Reasons Why You Should Support Local

We bring you this news because while Amazon might be the quickest way to get an item to your front door, you'd be missing out on the benefits that come with supporting local vendors and actual small businesses nationwide. Here's 3 reasons to keep it small and to keep it local:

1. Quality Over Quantity

It's very likely that the small businesses you enjoy in your local area is putting in the extra effort to make sure their products are quality. For Neurogan, we offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, create our products in a GMP certified facility, and third party lab-test every batch. Trust us, Amazon can't say the same (and we'll touch on that more in our next scoop, stay tuned).

2. Boosts Local Economy

A study done in Chicago found that for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 stayed in circulation within the city. Whereas only $43 of each $100 spent at a chain, stayed in the city.

3. Adds Flavor to Your Neighborhood

If it weren't for small businesses, there'd just be chain restaurants everywhere. And It's not that there's anything wrong with chain restaurants, but there's nothing like that one-of-a-kind experience at that little corner bakery that truly has your heart. Supporting local keeps the flavor and uniqueness of your city alive.

In Conclusion

Now that you're home with more time to shop on your hands, it also means you have more time to make thoughtful shopping choices. So here are two ideas to get you going:

1. Visit your local city website to see what's available within your neighborhood! Or if you're in San Diego, like us, check-out the city's website for a list of local businesses.

2. Nominate the hard-working healthcare worker in your life for our #HealthCareHero campaign, where we're giving away over $100,000 in FREE CBD Care Packages to those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis. Submit your nomination, here!
