Insider Scoop: CBD Can Make You Wired or Tired, Here's Why
Date 8th Sep 2021
A customer of ours, Annie, recently contacted our customer service team.
"Is something wrong with me?", she asked.
No, Annie. Nothing is wrong with you! And for anyone else out there, like Annie, who wants a better understanding of why CBD can make us feel wired or tired, allow us to explain.
How Does CBD Work?
As most conversations about CBD go, we can't properly talk about how CBD affects humans without mentioning the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).
Think of the ECS as the conductor of a symphony, guiding all of our bodily systems towards greater balance in order to keep us in a state of harmony, scientifically known as, homeostasis.
CBD interacts with the body's Endocannabinoid System and works to positively modify our internal receptor's ability to respond to cannabinoids. The result? Enhanced ECS functioning, helping our bodies to be better equipped at stepping in when there is too much or too little cellular activity and our systems need support.
So, Will I Feel Wired or Tired?
The answer to this question is, frustratingly, it depends.
Because CBD works with our unique internal system, and no two people are the same, no two CBD experiences will be alike.
CBD works to balance the ECS either down or up, depending on what YOU need, which will result in a wide array of effects. However, research is taking a closer look.
Recent studies have shown that CBD in low doses has an energizing effect, whereas CBD taken in higher doses has been shown to induce a sense of relaxation and tiredness.
Another important variable that contributes to feeling wired or tired, is the method you're choosing to enjoy CBD: CBD capsules, CBD oil, CBD gummies, CBD tea, and more. Each method will be digested by the body in a different way, causing a different biological reaction.
Determine how CBD makes you feel and adjust the time of day you take CBD to match. If this still doesn't make a difference, try switching up your CBD product.
But What if I'm Trying to Use CBD for Sleep?
A 2017 review of sleep and cannabis in the Journal of Current Psychiatry reported that CBD interacts with the receptors in our brains that govern sleep/wake cycles. This means that CBD making you feel more alert during the day, can naturally contribute to you feeling more relaxed and ready for sleep at night.
How CBD makes you feel is unique to you. Begin by experimenting with CBD through different occasions: for focus, for pain, and for stress-relief. Use these instances to take a closer look at your dosage and the time day in order to figure out how CBD can best work for you.
