What's not to love about tea?
It's warm, soothing, perfect for self-care, and has existed as a cultural tradition throughout history. So imagine the inherently comforting qualities of tea, combined with CBD for greater physical and mental well-being. A match made in tea heaven, right?
Here we'll spill the tea on CBD tea benefits, the best time of day to enjoy CBD tea, talk about what CBD tea tastes like, and share a personal testimonial on how CBD tea feels.
What is CBD?
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a singular chemical compound that comes from the Cannabis plant and has been shown to produce positive mental & physical effects in mammals.
The cannabis plant genus that CBD comes from is home to both the marijuana and hemp plant. Marijuana-derived CBD products will typically feature high THC content, the chemical component that gets you 'high'. Whereas hemp-derived CBD will feature low THC content, not enough to result in a psychoactive high.
CBD has become widely popular in the last decade for being able to provide similar health benefits to the marijuana plant, while not affecting cognition or getting in the way of a clear mind.
What is CBD tea?
CBD tea features raw CBD-rich hemp leaves placed into a convenient tea bag to be enjoyed just as you'd enjoy any regular tea. But don't be fooled, just because you can enjoy it like regular tea, doesn't mean it's a regular.
CBD tea's rich CBD content makes it the ideal soothing elixir to enjoy after a long stressful day when you want to unwind and experience some added peace and clarity.
What are the CBD tea benefits?
The following CBD tea benefits include evidence from scientific studies. Keep in mind that the majority of the research that has been performed with CBD is preliminary and has primarily been tested within animal based studies. However, the results are promising.
Supports natural pain relief
The current opioid crisis in the United States is proof that American's are experiencing pain and not feeling that they have natural options to turn to. In a recent study with rats, scientists found that CBD is capable of interacting with the body's serotonin receptors, the receptors that have been shown to help with pain relief and management.
Helps to promote a healthy sleep cycle
In 2013, The Journal of Psychopharmacology studied the effect of CBD on the sleep-wake cycles of rats. The study found that the group that was given daily administrations of CBD exhibited a significant increase in their total percentage of sleep compared to the placebo group.
Raw & unfiltered
It's rare that a CBD product gives you access to the raw plant itself. CBD tinctures and CBD capsules feature CBD plus a carrier oil, and CBD gummies contain CBD and a combination of natural flavors and extracts.
CBD tea is unique in that it puts you in contact with the pure, raw, unfiltered leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. This makes CBD tea the ideal choice for "purists" and those wanting to use a CBD product that is as close to the source as it gets.
Helps to mitigate the negative effects of stress
CBD tea benefits us when we’re confronted with stress. In one study, mice given low doses of CBD (the equivalent to 20MG) were placed in a cage with a boa constrictor. Mice who were given CBD were said to spend more time scanning their environment and acting strategically, as compared to the control group, which was more likely to run and hide.
What time of day should I use CBD tea?
Figuring out the best time of day to experience CBD tea benefits is going to take some experimentation because CBD affects everyone differently. This difference in effect is due not only to each individual's unique biodiversity, but also the balancing effect that takes place when CBD interacts with our body's endocannabinoid system (ECS).
For some, CBD provides increased alertness, while others report feeling more relaxed and sleepy. If CBD makes you feel alert, CBD tea first thing in the morning or after lunch can help you to experience greater cognitive clarity and focus. Whereas if CBD makes you feel relaxed and tired, taking it up to an hour before bedtime will help you to get some shut eye.
Your proclivity towards feeling either relaxed or alert will take experimentation on your part to determine. Be patient while you find the right dose and time of day to enjoy CBD.
What does CBD tea taste like?
The taste of CBD tea is contingent upon how long you soak your CBD tea bag.
When CBD-rich hemp leaves are steeped in hot water for 2-4 minutes, the taste of the hemp will be subtle, light, and earthy. However, if you enjoy a stronger flavor of hemp, you're free to steep your tea bag 5-8 minutes for a stronger hemp taste that is both nutty and earthy.
The taste of hemp is very distinct, but we've found that the flavor is mild in hemp tea as it's being dilluted in water. We recommend that people who are not fond of the taste of hemp try a CBD tea that is infused with a second flavor, for example, CBD tea with Chamomile. Chamomile has a sweet, floral taste that works to effortlessly mask hemp's natural flavor for a warm and tasty treat.
Can I make my own CBD tea?
If you’re interested in making your own CBD tea, it’s quite easy! All you need to do is procure a set of tea bags and loose leaf hemp flowers. You can place as much or as little loose leaf hemp flowers in the tea bag as you prefer and mix it with other popular tea leaves: lavender, rose, or chamomile. Be sure to grind or chop the raw hemp flowers before using them in the tea bags.
What does CBD tea feel like? CBD Tea Testimonial
As a content writer for Neurogan, I’ve been fortunate enough to try many great CBD products and our CBD tea is no exception. I always try the products we offer before they’re launched, so last week, I brewed myself some delicious Neurogan CBD tea.
I drink tea daily, but prefer CBD tea before bed time because CBD tends to make me want to curl up and take a nap. I like Neurogan’s CBD & Chamomile tea because I love the taste of chamomile; it’s light and sweet. Before bed, I steeped a warm cup of CBD tea, took a few big gulps, and started reading a book.
Within 10-15 minutes I was having a hard time keeping my eyes open and noticed that I felt very relaxed and comfortable. I’m not usually one that has trouble winding down, but it was clear to me that I felt more relaxed than usual. Within 25 minutes of drinking the tea, I was out cold!
After you drink CBD tea, the feeling to look for is an enhanced sense of relaxation that you can feel in both the body and mind.
Neurogan CBD Tea: A healing family tradition
Our co-founder, Jan Brandrup, gained his first inspiration for Neurogan from a cup of tea. Each day, his Grandmother Karen would retrieve a glass jar full of hemp from the cabinet and brew herself a warm cup of tea. He would watch in awe as her vitality returned, by virtue of simple plant medicine. This experience sparked his distinct fascination with hemp and an eventual desire to spread its healing attributes.
Today, we continue Grandmother Karen’s tradition through the creation of our very own hemp extracts made with the same simple ingredients she would use. Our top-notch team handcrafts all of our hemp products through CO2 extraction and great attention to detail.
